Reminder #1:
At the WC presentation “Real-Time Reaction,” hear a pair of editors/acquisitions editors/publishers, Holli Anderson and D.J. Butler, share what immediately attracts their interest and what turns them off as they react on-the-spot to real query letters for fiction books, submitted anonymously by conference attendees. They will give their reactions to what they are reading, both positive and negative, and offer advice to help improve the query letter.
Want to submit to get their reaction to YOUR query letter? Email it to nathan@writerscantina.org, with “QUERY LETTER” in the subject line. (Don’t worry, submission already received with “PROPOSAL” in the subject line are good, too.) Please attach your proposal in Word format (do not submit it in the body of the email), and please remove all personal data (like, um, your name) from the query letter itself.
Reminder #2:
The Great Paperback Swap! Gather those old paperbacks together! We’ll have a big table (or multiple tables, as needed) where you can drop off your unwanted paperbacks and pick up new hits of that sweet sweet reading habit. Just don’t take more books than you leave. (On the honor system. Don’t be an ass.)
