Kirkus Reviews may have said of Janiel Miller: “Miller is a remarkably unknown writer. So much so that we aren’t even saying this about her.” Because they didn’t. In any case, Janiel started her career co-writing an autobiographical comic book series with her best friend when she was twelve. In it she named herself FlashGirl, and that’s all we’re going to say about that. After a lot of marriage, childrearing, careering as a marketing rep, presenter, and director of children’s plays, as well as time on stage and short film, Janiel pivoted back around to her great love: finding common humanity through humor. During the heyday of blogging, she wrote humorous columns for Meridian Magazine, The American Fork Citizen, SoulSpa, Mormon Momma, LDS Music Universe, Smashing Stories, and a few sites of her own. Janiel continues to write about the dorky-reality of being human, while also teaching, performing, and hanging out with her adult kids who think she is funny enough to forgive her for their time in therapy. Currently she is finishing, and injecting laughter into, her speculative fiction novels—which she hopes Kirkus might truly review at some point.
